The land was given to Jonathan Bedford in 1812 and soon after sold to James Hawkins for 100 British pounds. Originally, the family had a mixed farm operation with pigs, dairy, hay, corn, chickens and horses. The building is now home to a Boer goat, a horse and chickens. Apples are still grown on the property as represented by the tree quilt pattern.
